چکیده
Due to concern about increasing mortality among 7 -day old chicks in a chicken hatchery the management arranged to screen all hatchery staff for salmonella excretion. The hatchery is part of a complex involving all stages of chicken meat production but is physically separate from the broiler units and chicken processing plant. The hatchery also has its own staff, there being no exchange of staff between it and other parts of the complex. The hatchery receives eggs from

Characterization of Salmonella spp. isolated from an integrated broiler chicken operation in Korea.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the biological and genetic characterization of persistent Salmonella isolates in an integrated broiler chicken operation, in an attempt to elucidate the source of contamination. From the breeder farm, the hatchery, the broiler farm and the chicken slaughter house of an integrated broiler chicken operation, a total of 6 serotypes were observed. Althou...
متن کاملSalmonella virchow in a chicken-packing station and associated rearing units.
In tracing the source of an outbreak of food-poisoning with Salmonella virchow a chicken-packing station and associated rearing farms were investigated. The serotype was found in chickens in 9 of the 14 rearing farms investigated and in the hatchery, but not in the breeding flocks supplying the hatchery. Several personnel on the farms were affected. The infection was most likely to have been in...
متن کاملAssessing the prevalence of Salmonella enterica in poultry hatcheries by using hatched eggshell membranes.
Salmonella enterica causes a number of significant poultry diseases and is also a major pathogen in humans. Most poultry infected by Salmonella become carriers; infection may also be fatal, depending on the particular serovar and the age of the bird at infection. Younger birds are more susceptible to infection by Salmonella, so it is critical that hatcheries monitor birds. We developed a method...
متن کاملPrevalence and risk factors for Salmonella spp. and Campylobacter spp. caecal colonization in broiler chicken and turkey flocks slaughtered in Quebec, Canada.
We conducted an observational study to estimate prevalence and risk factors for Salmonella spp. and Campylobacter spp. caecal colonization in poultry. Eighty-one broiler chicken and 59 turkey flocks selected among flocks slaughtered in the province of Quebec, Canada, were included in the study. Flock status was evaluated by culturing pooled caecal contents from about 30 birds per flock. Exposur...
متن کاملThe effect of short-time microwave exposures on Salmonella typhimurium inoculated onto chicken drumettes
Salmonella species show different disease syndromes and host specificity, according to their antigenic profile. Salmonella enterica serovar typhimurium is one of the most frequently isolated serovar from foodborne outbreaks. Poultry meat has been identified as one of the principal foodborne sources of Salmonella. In this study, the effect of microwave treatment of chicken meat samples...
